UM Special: How we are here – a Thought from Imam Abdul Latif

Good opinion of Allah 1

The Prophet, peace be upon him, had given dawa to 26 tribes before going to Medina. Why did he not give up after the first few rejections? Why not after being beaten in Ta-if? He kept going because He knew Allah would never abandon Him. This attitude is from the inward sunnahs of the Prophet, peace be upon him. It is so essential that had it not been there we would not be here.

Have a good opinion of Allah. ‪

UM Special: God is Greater – a thought from Imam Abdul Latif

Good opinion of Allah 1

When Musa, upon whom be peace, met with Pharaoh’s sorcerers, 72 in number, he had them cast their ropes down first. Musa, upon whom be peace, knew they were dealing with magic, yet he had them go first. A wisdom here is that had he gone first, and the snake appeared, it would have merely scared everyone but they wouldn’t have seen the ropes and staffs of the magicians for what they are. With them going ahead of him their own falsehood was a means to reveal the truth for all to see. Thus, have a good opinion of Allah for at times you will have to see the sorcerers cast their ropes first so that you can see God is Greater in the end.

‪Have a good opinion of Allah.

UM Special: Find Good – Hadith

Good opinion of Allah 1

According to Abū Dhār, the Prophet, peace be upon him said, reporting the words of God, ever blessed and exalted is He:

“Oh My servants, I have forbidden injustice to Myself and I have made it forbidden amongst you. So be not unjust to one another.

Oh My servants, all of you go astray except the one whom I guide. Ask guidance of Me, and I shall guide you.

…Oh My servants, all of you go hungry except the one whom I feed. Ask Me for food, and I shall feed you.

Oh My servants, all of you go naked except the one whom I clothe. Ask Me for clothing, and I shall clothe you.

Oh My servants, you transgress by day and night, but I forgive all misdeeds. Ask forgiveness of Me, and I shall forgive you.

Oh My servants, harming Me is beyond you, so you cannot harm Me; and benefitting Me is beyond you, so you cannot benefit Me.

Oh My servants, if all of you-first and last, man and jinn-were like the one among you with the most devout heart, that would add nothing to My kingdom.

Oh My servants, if all of you-first and last, man and jinn-were like the one among you with the most ungodly heart, that would take nothing away from My kingdom.

Oh My servants, if all of you-first and last, man and jinn-were to stand on the same level and address Me with your requests, and if I were to give each one what he requested, that would not diminish what is with Me any more than a needle dimities the sea when it enters it.

Oh My servants, it is solely your deeds that I take account of, and it is by virtue of them that I will repay you. So let him who finds good praise God and let him who finds other than that hold none but himself to blame.”

Have a good opinion of Allah.

UM Special: Seeing positivity – a Thought from Imam Abdul Latif Finch

Good opinion of Allah 1

Allah will never betray your good opinion of Him because you will never be able to see anything that could be perceived as negative from Him.

Think about how powerful this is.

UM Special: Belief in His Mercy – a Thought from Imam Abdul Latif Finch

Good opinion of Allah 1

The Quran states,

“O my sons, go and find out about Joseph and his brother and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people.” (12:87)

As Allah said none despair of the mercy of Allah but the disbelieving folk, they have a bad opinion of Allah in as much as they don’t believe in His mercy. So a good opinion of Allah is believing in His mercy. May we have a good opinion of our Lord and His capacity to relieve us. Amin

God’s Mercy Embraces All Things – a thought from Imam Abdul Latif Finch

Whatever mercy God unfolds for mankind none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds, thereof, none can release it after Him. And He is the Mighty, the Wise. (35:2) When something unfolds it is due to its having been folded up at a point. Whatever is folded up is not visible. Hence the People of the Cave were instructed to go out of sight to receive Mercy, And when you withdraw from them and from that which they worship except God, then take refuge in the Cave. Your Lord will reveal for you something of His mercy and prepare for you in your affair some comfort. (18:16) Whatever is invisible is in the unseen. Thus, God’s Mercy is coming from the unseen. Whatever is unseen cannot be detected, as He said, be He exalted, And if you were to count God’s grace you could never reckon it. Indeed God is Forgiving, Merciful. (16:18) Whatever cannot be detected cannot be proven. Whatever cannot be proven must be accepted on faith. Thus, God’s Mercy is accepted on faith and ..do not despair of God’s Spirit (His Mercy). Indeed none despairs of the Spirit of God save the disbelieving folk. (12:87) Those who reject faith in God are ungrateful to Him for the word kāfir means “ingrate”. Whereas in truth, Whatever grace you have, it is from God. (16:53) All the things that we have are given to us from Him, I have myself, therefore, “I” or my consciousness is itself a gift from God. As my consciousness is a grace and thus a mercy and through it I participate in the world, all things I know of come through mercy. Thus, I can vouch for His words, My Mercy embraces all things, (7:156) as my own existence and whatever I encounter is embraced by His Mercy. Al-Ḥamdulillāh.
