We are a group of volunteers aiming to inshAllah raise awareness of the unlimited mercy available to all.
The Qurān states:
To each We extend – to these and to those – from the gift of your Lord. And never has the gift of your Lord been restricted. (17:20)
An extension is an allowance. An allowance is a gift. A gift is not something that one deserves but comes from the mercy of the giver. God states here that this mercy has never been restricted.
Therefore the extent of God’s Mercy is unrestricted. Thus God’s Mercy, in itself is unlimited.
The universe is a creation. The creation is limited. That which is restricted cannot contain that which is open. The limited universe, by its nature, unfortunately does not have the capacity to embrace the overwhelming Mercy of God. Perhaps this is the reason why all things in creation fall short of mercy.
To accommodate this shortcoming, God sent the Prophet, peace be upon him, endowed with the utmost capacity to receive from God’s otherwise unrestricted Mercy. His mercy extends to all times and places for, “we have not sent you but as a mercy to the worlds.” (21:107) The worlds existed both before and after his physical advent. Therefore, the mercy of the Prophet, peace be upon him, must extend to that which is both before and after his corporeal presence.
The objective of Unlimited Mercy, as a consortium of contributors, is to remind us of the nature of God’s Mercy as it is expressed through the manifestation of the Prophet Muḥammad, peace be upon him. To do so, we intend on bridging what we perceive to be a gap that has occurred in the hearts of the Believers between the Statement of Monotheism, “There is no God but Allah and Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. Indeed, most of us can commit pages and hours of lectures for others regarding our realization of the first half (la ilaha illah lah) of this declaration but few of us know much about the second half (Muḥammad Rasulullah, peace be upon him) of it. It is our contention that were our hearts to realize the reality of the mercy extended to and from the Prophet, peace be upon him, our capacity to receive and be merciful would increase exponentially. We at Unlimited Mercy feel that the need to be merciful specifically in our current day and time is of the upmost fundamental importance.
